WVU adds Florida prospect to 2017 class

By Chris Jackson              Sports Editor West Virginia added its second commitment of the evening from defensive tackle Lamonte McDougle. McDougle, a class of 2017 prospect from Deerfield Beach High School (FL), picked WVU over Florida International and Purdue, among others. Rivals.com rates McDougle as a three-star recruit and the nation’s No. 46 defensive tackle. Texas receiver commits to WVU

By Chris Jackson               Sports Editor Dana Holgorsen and West Virginia picked up a commitment from Texas receiver Reggie Roberson. Roberson, a class of 2017 prospect from Horn High School (Mesquite, TX), chose the Mountaineers over Illinois, Utah and Washington State. He joins junior college products Dominique Maiden and David Sills as the three receivers in this year’s class. WVU commit reopens recruitment

By Chris Jackson               Sports Editor West Virginia’s top football commit in the 2017 class is reopening his recruitment. Mike Harley, a receiver from St. Thomas Aquinas High School (Florida), ended his pledge to WVU just two weeks before National Signing Day. He’s rated as the nation’s No. 18 receiver by Rivals.com, holding offers from Miami, Michigan and a number of others. Harley also took an official visit to Miami on Jan. 13 and has a trip scheduled to UCLA on Friday, according to 247 Sports. Top WVU recruit out for season

By Chris Jackson              Sports Editor West Virginia’s top class of 2017 signee is no longer apart of his high school basketball team, according to Charles Grove of The Youngstown Vindicator. Derek Culver, a power forward at Warren G. Harding High School in Ohio, is rated as the nation’s No. 81 recruit in the ESPN 100. WVU target postpones commitment date

By Chris Jackson       Sports Editor Originally schedule to commit last night, WVU class of 2017 target Shakur Brown postponed his decision date until National Signing Day on Feb. 1. Brown is rated by Rivals.com as a three-star athlete by 247 Sports out of Woodland High School (Stockbridge, GA), helping lead the team to a 10-3 record this past season. The 6-foot, 180-pound prospect is deciding between Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia.
